In September 2004, I spent a couple of weeks in San Telmo. The small family guest house was located near Carlos Calvo and Perú crossing. Carlos Gavito was teaching at Dandi studio, one block from my place. One class for 20 pesos. Every class beyond price.
We were dancing really, really slowly there. He allowed us to do only one paso básico, one cadencia, two barridas, one ocho atrás and one sandwich during every song. Yes, only five figures in three minutes! It was like a slow motion movie. But today, 5 years later I'm almost sure he was teaching us to dance pausa.
